It was painted in the latter part of his life; his Giverney period (1919-1920).
What you need to do is read about Monet in general during his Giverney period. This includes the lily pads and pond paintings.

possibly the metropolitan museum of art in new york… a few summers ago i went first to new york, then brussels, then amsterdam, then paris. I went to at least one art museum everywhere i went, and i believe i saw a van gogh in new york too. I am not 100% positive though.

Try Jackson Pollock if you want to find abstract art. There is also a video about his life that I watch in one of my advanced art class. But one of my favorite artist is Mr.Brainwash who has some really great abstract piece on the streets of L.A. He also has a website. Before I was not interested in experimenting with paint or even holding a paint brush until I got inspired by these two great abstract artists!

Renee Magritte is the king of this kind of art. He originated this art form, called surrealist art. Pick up a book on him and it will blow your mind. Look in college libraries or public libraries.

you draw upside down. My art teacher always says its a great way to do it, because upside down we don’t really see an image, we see lines and colors.
